Communication Contests
The Kentucky 4-H Written Communication Contest celebrates the power of words and the creativity of young writers. In this contest, you can show off your skills in five different writing categories, including: Original Monologue, Poetry, Press Release, Songwriting, and What 4-H Means to Me Essay. Speeches by Senior level 4-H members must be between 5-7 minutes long. Speeches by Junior level 4-H members must be between 3-5 minutes. No visual aids are to be used in the Speech Contest. Speeches are divided into Categories based on age. (9 yr old, 10 yr old...)
Demonstrations should be between 5-15 minutes. 4-H members are expected to showcase their own original work. This includes selecting a topic and conducting their own research. Demonstrations are divided into Categories based on the content of the Demonstration. They are then also split into Junior (9-13) and Senior (14-18) age groups.
The Mock Job Interview Contest is a Public Speaking contest that gives members an opportunity to practice the real-life skill of applying for a job. The contest involves a set of fictitious Job Descriptions for senior 4-Her's that the members can go through the process of applying for.
